verbo 'have'

💡 Regla Gramatical

El verbo to have en inglés americano

1. Formas en presente

En inglés americano, el verbo to have tiene dos formas principales en presente:

  • I/you/we/they have
  • he/she/it has

Ejemplos:

  • “I have a car.” (Tengo un coche.)
  • “She has two brothers.” (Ella tiene dos hermanos.)

2. Formación

El verbo to have es regular en presente, excepto en la tercera persona del singular, que cambia a has.

Para formar la negación, el inglés americano usa normalmente do not / does not + have:

  • “I do not have time.” (No tengo tiempo.)
  • “He does not have a bike.” (Él no tiene una bicicleta.)

Para hacer preguntas, el inglés americano usa do / does + sujeto + have:

  • “Do you have any siblings?” (¿Tienes hermanos?)
  • “Does she have a pet?” (¿Tiene ella una mascota?)

3. Uso para expresar posesión

El uso más común de to have es expresar posesión:

  • “They have a new house.” (Ellos tienen una casa nueva.)
  • “He has a lot of homework.” (Él tiene muchos deberes.)

4. Inglés americano vs. inglés británico

En inglés británico también se puede usar have got para expresar posesión, especialmente en lenguaje informal:

  • Británico: “I have got a car.”
  • Americano: “I have a car.” (preferido)

El inglés americano rara vez usa “have got” en negaciones o preguntas. En lugar de “Have you got…?” del inglés británico, los estadounidenses dicen “Do you have…?”
